Ode à l'Acadie: A special tribute to Acadian songwriters In 2004, during the celebrations surrounding Acadie's 400th year of existence, the Festival acadien de Caraquet put together a special tribute to the Acadian nation. Many of the best Acadian songs of all time have been rearranged or modernized in a show that blends theatrical, cinematographic, musical and poetic elements, as well as choreography. Thus, due to popular demand, Ode à l'Acadie returns in 2005, in 2006, in 2007, and again in 2008... exporting the show all over the Maritimes, in Quebec, Ontario, United States, France, Switzerland and Burkina Faso in Africa. The show was originally planned for 25 dates, but the tremendous success of the production has brought that number closer to the 421 performances in front of 170,000 people, as of Spring 2009. Carte blanche aux artistes d'Ode: a second show by Ode à l'Acadie The show, Carte blanche aux artistes d'Ode, gives the artists the room they need to express their love of song and music. Not only does Isabelle Thériault, Monique Poirier, Christian KIT Goguen, François Émond, Benoit Picard, Patricia Richard, and Louise Vautour present original compositions, but they perform songs they love and pieces from artists that have both influenced and inspired them. Musical direction for the show is by Isabelle Thériault and artistic direction is from Allain Roy and Monique Poirier. "Since 2004, these seven talented artists have played together and traveled all over, singing the voice of a proud and alive Acadia. They have become close musical accomplices, and in their free time together, play music, share a new song they have heard, a new melody or a song one of them has just written. This is the most wonderful and creative part of this shared-adventure that is now going on its fourth year", says Allain Roy and Monique Poirier. Carte blanche is in fact the continuation of this great musical adventure: "By presenting original compositions, the artist reveals a part of himself to the public which can be quite nerve-racking and requires all of one's emotional strength. By sharing the music they love and interpreting songs from artists they are passionate about, the artists from Ode à l'Acadie speak of their desires, preoccupations, and hope. Carte blanche, is the freedom to sing for the simple pleasure of singing. It is the joy to share a relaxing and fun evening with touching and sometimes hilarious moments full surprises and lots of happiness", assure both musical directors. Ode à l'Acadie's CD of songs from the show After the resounding success of the show Ode à l'Acadie presented more than 200 times, a CD comprised of 14 songs from the show was released. The CD contains songs from various Acadian songwriters such as Zachary Richard, Michel Thériault, Marie-Jo Therio, Calixte Duguay, Lennie Gallant, Suzanne Hébert, Angèle Arsenault, Ronald Bourgeois and Édith Butler. Ode à l'Acadie is an occasion to take the public on a trip through time, going from old-time folk songs to the latest hits topping the Acadian music charts. Isabelle Thériault, a cast member of Ode à l'Acadie as well as its musical director of the show, produced the CD and penned the musical arrangements. Alain Leblanc acted as musical direction and arrangements advisor for this album recorded in Tracadie-Sheila, Caraquet and Dartmouth in March and April 2005, at Donny Chapman's studio.
